The knowledge generated within the Breaking Down Barriers programme provides practical insights into how CBR/CBID initiatives create meaningful, systemic change. Together, the papers highlight the importance of combining family support, peer engagement, community mobilisation and strong partnerships to drive disability inclusion.
1. Unlocking Synergies (Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Zambia)
Key recommendation: Strengthen synergies across core pathways—family support, peer groups, community influencers, stakeholder forums, and service‑provider partnerships—to amplify both immediate and systemic impact.
2. Blueprint for Success (Zambia – ZECREP project)
Key recommendation: Design programmes around four mutually reinforcing pillars—family outreach, peer groups, community influencers and stakeholder forums—to achieve holistic inclusion across all CBR dimensions.
3. Pathways to Inclusion (Sierra Leone)
Key recommendation: Combine the four core pathways with critical success factors such as “by us, for us” leadership, embedding inclusion in community structures and addressing both immediate and structural barriers.
4. Patterns of Success (Cameroon – EDID programme)
Key recommendation: Use regular home visits, peer groups, community actors, service‑provider networks and partnerships in synergy to advance education, health, social inclusion, livelihoods and empowerment.
